We were very excited to run our first ever Innovation Expo here at WGHS with our STEAM students displaying their innovative prototype solutions to the community issue identified during their community project. The Innovation Expo was held on Friday 30 November with an open invitation for parents and whanau to attend. All groups were provided with a display space to promote their prototype and five were selected to face a Dragon’s Den style panel. It was a privilege to have some amazing industry female role models as our judges including: Anmar Taufeek, Health and Safety, Environment and Quality Manager at The Auckland Council; Victoria Mahan, Director of HP NZ; Vanessa Sorenson, Enterprise Director at Microsoft; and Megan Darby, Founder and CEO of ESTEAM builder. Alexia Hilbertidou, CEO of GirlBoss, ran a coaching session with our students in the lead up to the event to guide them on how to set up their display area, engage with their audience and deliver an effective Dragon’s Den pitch.
